PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Each day is a fresh adventure for our young artists who range in age from 4 - 10 years.  Children start out in small, same age groups with a group leader who accompanies and guides them throughout their day.

Mornings, the children attend scheduled art and play activities with their groups. The pace is relaxed and flexible so there is extra time at a station if needed. In between station activities, children have a healthy snack and cool off.

Midday, the entire program shares an outdoor picnic lunch (brought from home) in the shade. Riddles and jokes told by children of all ages are featured as well!

Afternoons, continue with more art making and play. Later at dismissal, homemade ice pops are given out while children wait for pick-up.

Below is a general description of some of our many arts activities. The 2020 Summer Program activities  will depend on enrollment and will be confirmed in June.

Past activities have included:

Fine Arts, Clay and Ceramic work

This station is led by our experienced art teachers. Clay pieces are made,  glazed and fired on the school's kiln. Fine art and craft activities are hands-on and provide age-appropriate challenge with a myriad of materials such as: paint, wood, paper, fabric, shells, beads, and found objects. Students create wire sculptures, mobiles, work with perspective, watercolor, collage and prints.

Drama

Drama exercises, skits and fun movement games enhance our young performers' skills. By exploring comedy, clown and improvisation, students develop confidence, camaraderie and timing. Our drama program is a favorite activity and students' explorations culminate in a final performance.

Music

Singing, moving and playing percussion together allows the children to develop ensemble music-making skills and heightens our listen. Building our singing practice each day and learning to play the Ukulele and African hand drums is a joyous way to experience music.

Sewing

Our Sewing Arts program will have your child sewing dolls, pillows, clothes, accessories (and maybe even reupholstering your favorite armchair?). Children are inspired by the versatility of a sewing machine and with expert instruction, their abilities blossom.

In the past, a music and drama performance culminated our time together and all of the children perform in our end-of-season play which drew its theme from our surroundings and staff and student imaginations. Our CITs, counselors and older students are partners in the creative process - the music and lyrics are original and every child participates - to a packed house!
